A slant board isn't only for calf stretches. Here are seven simple exercises you can do with one at home. Wear shoes, start at a low angle, and keep a wall or chair nearby for balance.
1. Standing calf stretch
Stand on the board facing up the slope, heels low and knees straight. Hold for 30–60 seconds. Works: calves and the Achilles area.
2. Bent-knee calf stretch
Same position, but bend your knees slightly and let your weight shift forward. Hold for 30–60 seconds. Works: the lower calf (soleus).
3. Single-leg wall stretch
Put one foot on the board, hands on a wall, and step the other foot back. Lean in gently. Hold for 30 seconds on each side.
4. Hamstring fold
Stand on the board facing up the slope. Hinge forward from your hips with a long back and let your hands reach toward your shins. Hold for 30 seconds. Works: hamstrings and calves.
5. Heel-elevated squat
Turn around so you face down the slope with your heels raised. Squat down slowly, keeping your chest up. Do 2–3 sets of 8–12. Raising your heels lets you squat deeper while staying more upright.
6. Knees-over-toes split squat
Put your front foot on the board with the heel raised and step your back foot behind you. Lower slowly, letting your front knee travel forward over your toes only as far as is comfortable. Do 2 sets of 6–10 on each leg. Start shallow and build depth over time.
7. Single-leg balance hold
Set the board to a low angle, stand on it on one foot near a wall, and hold for 20–30 seconds. Works: ankle stability and balance.
